Picture of Market Square in Dover, NHMarket Square, Dover NH

Located on the Maine border and part of New Hampshire's sea coast, Dover's early Explorers saw on the North bank of the Piscataquat River, a forest of oak, hemlock, maple, and pine. The river widens suddenly and here, where Master Martin Pring and the crew of the ship Speedwell, a hugh vessel of 50 tons from Bristol, England, sailed up river with the tide and took refuge in June of 1603.
